<image:title>Home - About Goshinkan Ju-Jitsu</image:title>
<image:caption>There are many different styles of Ju Jitsu (jiu-jitsu), each concentrating on a different aspect of the art. In its purest form, Ju Jitsu comprises kicks, punches, nerve-centre pressure-point control, holds, joint locks, throws, and grappling. Ju Jitsu is arguably the most well-rounded combat art for self-defense. In Japanese, Ju Jitsu means "gentle (ju) art (jitsu)". The name refers not just to ju jitsu techniques, which are anything but "gentle", but rather to how you address a self-defense situation, including your state of being having reached a certain degree of proficiency. Learning Ju Jitsu allows you to adapt your response to best suit a given situation. Ju Jitsu was the hand-to-hand combat art of the Samurai, developed for use in close-quarters where it was not possible to wield a sword, and later when the Samurai were forbidden to carry swords in public. Ju Jitsu is the parent art to many modern martial arts, such as Aikido, Karate, Judo, many others. Below is a chart comparing a variety of self-defense techniques to different martial arts. A skilled Ju Jitsu practitioner is capable of defeating armed and unarmed assailants with as much force as necessary to stop an attack and prevent further attack. Ju jitsu continues to be an art worthy of serious study. Learn more about Goshinkan-Ryu Ju-Jitsu at www.GoshinMA.com. <image:title>Mini Bushi</image:title>
<image:caption>Mini Bushi™ Our Mini Bushi™ Program is not just a martial arts program for boys and girls ages 3 - 5, it is a step-by-step danger awareness program. Shihan Lintott started and developed the children's programs in 2004, and it has expanded throughout Alberta, into B.C. and Saskatchewan. What will my child learn? Your child will be learning one level every one to two Semesters (11 weeks), both in the dojo and at home. The skills taught in the dojo will be initialed by the instructor teaching your child when they are first taught the skill. A second initial will be given by one of our instructors when your child is able to perform the skill with little or no prompting. Skills to be learned at home are indicated with a spot for you to initial. These are skills that cannot be taught in the dojo or require additional parental involvement. When an instructor sees that you have initialed a skill, they will ask your child to explain it back to them from time to time, at which point they will add their initials as well. Martial arts for life will make your child more focused. They will have increased concentration through traditional ranking system of earning belts and stripes, they will learn they have the ability of setting and meeting achievable goals. These goals will follow them through life and improve their academics at school. Children will learn Dojo Skills and Drills with our all new obstacle course. The obstacle course will improve confidence, agility and martial arts skills. At the beginning and end of each class there is quiet time before the children bow in and out of class much like the traditional way of bowing in Japanese Ju-Jitsu. Will my child get to have fun? All of kids programs will include Dojo Games. Some of the games are Ju Jitsu Dodge Ball; Mini Bushi Run and Freeze Shadow Boxing. What happens when the end of each level? At the end of each level your child will be promoted to the next level. Each level has 5 stripes. Once all five stripes are earned they will then move onto the next level after all the skills are signed off. The last few classes are spent reviewing these skills under the observation of a Black Belt instructor, and end with a celebration and presentation of their stripes and certificates. There are thirty (30) stripes in the Mini Bushi™ program; Yellow (5); Gold (5); Orange (5); Green (5); Blue (5) and Red (5). The entire program takes 1 1/2 to 2 years to complete depending how well the children learn and how many classes they attend. After this program they join the Little Samurai™ Program. About our Instructors Kevin D. Lintott, Shihan is the Chief Instructor of Goshinkan Ju Jitsu. All GMA instructors have been taught and ranked by Shihan Kevin and must be licensed to teach any of the programs. Assisting instructors will vary from class to class, but both our Black Belt and Colour Belt instructors have been educated in the teaching of our program and ensure that your child’s safety is at the forefront. <image:title>Little Samurai - Little Samurai™</image:title>
<image:caption>Our Little Samurai™ Program is not just a martial arts program for boys and girls ages 5 - 7, it is a step-by-step danger awareness program. Kevin Lintott Shihan started and developed the program in 2004, and it has expanded throughout Alberta, into B.C. and Saskatchewan. What will my child learn? Your child will be learning one belt level each semester, both in the dojo and at home. They will have increased concentration through traditional ranking system of earning belts and stripes, they will learn that they have the ability of setting and meeting achievable goals. These goals will follow them through life and improve their academics at school. Children will learn Dojo Skills and Drills with our all new obstacle course. The obstacle course will improve confidence, agility and martial arts skills. At the beginning and end of each class there is quiet time before the children bow in and out of class much like the traditional way of bowing in Japanese Ju Jitsu.</image:caption>

<image:title>Teens & Adults - Adults and Teens</image:title>
<image:caption>Arguably the most devastating and effective system of self-defense, ju jitsu is often taught to law enforcement personnel and personal security professionals. You will never see a fancy, high-flying kick or intricate and flashy sequence of moves taught in our schools, instead you will learn immediately usable and effective self-defense techniques and tactics design for one purpose — to keep you, your family and possessions safe. Not being in a confrontation is ideal, so learning how to avoid them whenever possible is our first consideration and strategy. However, physical confrontations do happen and from the first class you are learning how to mitigate your risk, as well as position yourself to remove yourself from the situation safely. Should you find yourself in a physical confrontation you will be armed with proven and effective self-defense techniques and tactics to help you stop the attack and prevent further attack. For men and women from 13 and older this program is based on a traditional color belt system (White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Purple and Brown) and when the student reaches the last level in the program they are able to test for their Black Belt. The Teens and Adult program and consist of the following: Stances Breakfalls Blocks and Parries Striking Techniques Kicking Techniques Throws and Takedowns After Throws Follow-throughs, Hold Downs and Submissions Hold Escapes Self-Defense Tactics and Strategies Weapons Disarming Escorts and Removals Pressure Point Control Joint Locking Grappling Restraints Dojos currently offering the Adult and Teens Program: Red Deer Okotoks Edmonton</image:caption>
