Home Dojo: Goshin Martial Arts Calgary, Calgary AB Canada
Affiliations: Alberta Ju Jitsu Association

Cliff’s first taste of martial arts and combatives came in the form of an after-school Judo program run by the Abbotsford Judo Club and becoming an amateur high school wrestler, referee and schoolboy wrestling coach during high school. After graduating, Cliff went looking for a way to combine his enjoyment of combative sports with a growing awareness of the limitations of sport-based combative training. Cliff became a member of the Hiscoe Jiu-Jitsu Dojo in 1998 and graded for the rank of Shodan in Can-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu in 2001.

After achieving a rank of Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt), Cliff and his training partner Dave Woods were granted the opportunity to continue training and teaching Jiu-Jitsu by adopting responsibility for Shihan Hiscoe’s club. After running as Abbotsford Jiu-Jitsu with Sensei Woods for one year, Cliff moved to Calgary, Alberta to continue his training with Sensei Kevin Lintott and Goshinkan-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu.

Cliff graded for Nidan in 2003 under Senseis Lintott and Hiscoe. Cliff spent his time at the Goshin club training personally with Sensei Lintott and teaching the adults class under his supervision. After taking a break from training in 2006 due to personal matters, Cliff has returned ready to continue his martial arts journey training under Sensei Lintott and sharing his love of Jiu-Jitsu to others. Sensei Cliff also holds ranks in Arnis and Shorinji-Kan Jiu-Jitsu.

The Warrior's Way

Bushido, the warrior's way, means many things to many people, but its underlying principle is the never-ending quest for self-perfection through mastery of technique and of self; a commitment to deal with all things honestly, honourably, and with a healthy dose of humility.
